Whole-Home Wi-Fi, Security Cameras & Technology Upgrades in Leesburg.
A faster internet connection is only part of a connected home. For this Leesburg, Virginia homeowner, a new fiber internet service highlighted a problem inside the house: the existing equipment wasn’t delivering the Wi-Fi coverage the homeowner needed.
Nuvetra Integration upgraded the home’s network, extended internet connectivity to a detached garage, and installed additional technology throughout the property. The project included UniFi networking, UniFi Protect security cameras, kitchen and bathroom cabinetry lighting, and a Samsung Frame TV.
CHALLANGE PRESENTED
The Challenge: Fiber Internet With Limited Wi-Fi Coverage.
The homeowner had upgraded to fiber, but the Wi-Fi provided by the existing equipment wasn’t reaching effectively throughout the house. The incoming internet connection and the network distributing it around the home needed to be considered separately.
Our work focused on bringing that connection to more of the places and devices that needed it, through a combination of wireless access points and hardwired Ethernet connections.
PREPERATION & PRE-PLANNING
A Network Upgrade Planned a Year Earlier.
About a year before this installation, we had prewired the house for future network upgrades. That preparation provided a foundation for the new system.
When the homeowner was ready to upgrade, we used the existing wiring to connect many devices directly to the network. This allowed us to combine wired connections with a distributed Wi-Fi system rather than relying on one device to provide wireless coverage throughout the house.
THE TECHNOLOGY
UniFi Networking and Whole-Home Wi-Fi.
We installed a UniFi Dream Machine Pro and a USW-24-PoE switch as the core of the upgraded home network. Battery backup supported the core network equipment.
UniFi U6+ wireless access points provided coverage throughout the home, while Ethernet connections served many of the household’s devices using our earlier prewiring.
The installation brought together several parts of a professional home network:
A UniFi Dream Machine Pro.
A USW-24-PoE network switch.
UniFi U6+ wireless access points.
Battery backup for the core network equipment.
Hardwired device connections using existing network cabling.
The result was high-speed connectivity throughout the house, allowing the homeowner to make better use of the new fiber internet service.
NETWORK EXPANSION
Extending Internet to the Detached Garage.
The homeowner also needed connectivity beyond the main house. We installed a NanoBeam wireless link to extend the network to the detached garage.
This made the garage part of the project’s connectivity solution, alongside the Wi-Fi and wired network upgrades inside the home.
ADDITIONAL PROJECT SYSTEMS INSTALLED
Security Cameras, Cabinetry Lighting & a Frame TV.
The project extended beyond networking. We also installed UniFi Protect security cameras throughout the property, adding a camera system alongside the upgraded network.
Inside the house, we installed cabinetry lighting in the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as a Samsung Frame TV. These additional installations brought networking, security, lighting, and home entertainment into one broader home technology project.
FINAL RESULTS
The Result: Connectivity Throughout the Home and Beyond.
The completed installation gave the homeowner high-speed connectivity throughout the house and internet access in the detached garage.
It also demonstrated the value of planning network wiring ahead of time. The prewiring completed about a year earlier became the foundation for the homeowner’s next stage of technology upgrades.
